It's nice every once in a while to go back to your roots and see how far things have come
The inspiration behind this design comes from the craft of carving stone.
It can be traced back to the ancient civilizations in all regions of the world, going back so far there was pretty much an entire age dedicated to it (The Stone Age).
The back design of the T-shirt is a drawing of Ludovisi Gaul.
The front print is a drawing of the Gaelic gates of death.
The story behind the statue is one of sorrow, Ludovisi Gaul is an ancient Roman statue dipicting a Gaelic man plunging a sword into his breast to stop himself being taken as a prisoner.
It blows my mind to think someone could create such a dramatic scene with Marble, some basic tools and most importantly years of dedication.
The gates of death are a more basic but just as powerful, a simple design but with the use of real human skulls in a door way. Using human bones in a gateway is probably pretty extreme by todays standards but skulls look really cool on shirts.
It also represents the barrier blocking us between Earth and The End, in our work that barrier will always be between us and perfection, the only perfect work we will create will be the last thing we make before death. Everything we have learned and mastered throughout our entire life leading up to that final piece of work.
These two designs work in Tandem with each other both old techniques of stone working, both also representations of the end.
Ironic that this is Episode One.
